The Sense of Edge is a set of three smaller sculptures which were made by using a specific body part or action with different materials.
For the hand piece, I constructed a glove-like tool with wool to close my contact with the fired ball of clay that I formed with my hands. In turn, this process worked like a raku firing. The burnt organic material left marks on the clay, making markations of fingerprints and scratches more evident and this left the condition of the wool eviscerated and partially vaporized.
For the torso, I felted a large sheet of wool and used this as a barrier between my body and a large hot glass form. To shape the glass, my body was pressed against the large form, and then immediately taken off the pipe.
For the knees, I smithed a copper implement and felted wool pads. The copper was then heated and pressed into the back of my knees and an imprint was made in the pads.
